Wig Size Guide: How to Measure Your Head for the Perfect Glueless Fit

Measure your head in three steps and find your OPHAIR size, from XS to XL. Why the right fit beats the tightest fit for a secure glueless wig.

Measure your head with a soft tape, over your hair exactly as you will wear it under the wig, then match your measurements to the size chart. OPHAIR sizes run from XS (20.5") to XL (24"). Choose the size that matches your measurements, not the smaller one: the right fit matters more than the tightest fit.

At a glance

  • The right fit is not the tightest fit.
  • Too small: the wig pulls back and keeps receding from your hairline.
  • Too large: the wig moves, and that movement creates friction on your natural hair.
  • Measure over your braids or flat hair, exactly as you will wear it.
  • Between two sizes? Book a Fitting or a video consultation.

Why size is the foundation of a glueless fit

A glueless wig stays on through its construction: the closure, the adjustable band, the internal adjustment system and correct placement. All of that only works when the cap matches your head. The band can fine-tune the fit; it cannot turn the wrong size into the right one. That is why we always say: measure first, choose your style second.

The biggest sizing mistake: going smaller "for security"

Many women choose a smaller size because a snug wig feels more secure. It is the opposite. A wig that is too small pulls backward and keeps receding from your hairline, so you spend the day pushing it forward. It can also feel tight and uncomfortable after a few hours.

The opposite mistake: sizing up to avoid pressure

Others size up to avoid any pressure. A wig that is too large moves. Every small movement creates friction, and repeated friction can pull at your natural hair underneath. A large wig also tends to lift at the sides and the nape.

Our Stylist Says: "The biggest sizing mistake is choosing a size that is too small because a snug fit feels more secure. That is incorrect. A wig that is too small pulls backward and keeps receding from the hairline. A wig that is too large moves, and that movement creates friction that can pull at your natural hair. The best fit is the correct fit, not the tightest fit."

What you need

  • A soft measuring tape (a sewing tape, not a metal one).
  • A mirror, or someone to help you.
  • Your usual base: braids, cornrows or flat-pressed hair, exactly as you will wear them under the wig.

How to measure your head in three steps

  1. Circumference. Start at mid-forehead, just past your hairline. Bring the tape behind your ears, around the nape of your neck and back to the start. Keep it flat and snug, not tight.
  2. Ear to ear. From under one ear, bring the tape over the top of your head to under the other ear.
  3. Front to back. From your hairline at the front, over the top of your head to the nape.

Write the three numbers down. Circumference matters most; the other two confirm your choice.

Between two sizes: what we recommend

If your measurements land between two sizes, do not guess, and do not automatically go smaller. Look at all three measurements together, then talk to us. A Fitting at our Montréal Showroom lets you try both sizes on, and a video consultation lets a stylist check your measurements with you from anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most common wig cap size?

There is no "standard" head. Small, medium and large all cover a lot of women, so measure rather than assume.

Should I measure with or without my braids?

With them. Measure over your hair exactly as you will wear it under the wig.

What if I am between two sizes?

Book a Fitting or a video consultation so we can check your measurements with you. Do not automatically go smaller.

Can a wig be adjusted if it is a little too big?

The adjustable band can fine-tune the fit within your size. It cannot fix a size that is clearly wrong.

Does wig size change where the hairline sits?

Yes. A wig that is too small sits further back and keeps receding; a wig that is too large can slip forward. The right size keeps the hairline where it belongs.
