The Ultimate Guide to Glueless Wigs
How glueless wigs stay secure, how to choose your size, lace and hair, and how to wear one every day. Our complete guide from the OPHAIR Atelier in Montréal.
The OPHAIR Atelier · Updated October 2026

A glueless wig is designed to stay secure through its construction, its sizing and its adjustable band, not through adhesive. This guide covers everything you need to choose, wear and care for one, from your very first unit to building a rotation. Each section gives you the short answer, then links to our full guide on the topic.
At a glance
- Glueless should actually mean glueless. The hold comes from how the wig is built, not from spray or glue.
- The right fit matters more than the tightest fit. Measure your head before you choose anything else.
- Choose your lace by how you live: a closure for everyday wear, a larger closure for more styling freedom, a frontal for maximum impact.
- Invest according to how you actually wear your hair. Not everyone needs our most premium hair.
- Two wigs in rotation protect your investment and give you a backup on wash day.
What makes a wig truly glueless
Many wigs are sold as "glueless" and still need spray, adhesive or melting products to stay in place. A true glueless wig does not. Five things work together to hold it: the construction of the cap, the closure, the size, the adjustable band and where the wig sits on your head.
The closure keeps the wig positioned correctly. The adjustable band underneath stops it moving forward or backward, and the internal adjustment system holds it from side to side. When those parts are right, the wig feels secure on its own and you can take it off at the end of the day without removing any product.
Our Stylist Says: "Glueless is not only about removing the glue. It is the combination of construction, closure design, sizing, the adjustable band and proper placement. When those work together, the wig feels secure without relying on adhesive."

Choosing your first glueless wig
Lace, size, density, length, texture: a first wig can feel like a lot of decisions. Keep it simple. The easiest first wig is a glueless closure unit in your correct size, with natural density and a style you would happily wear on a Tuesday, not only on a Saturday night.
Our first-wig favorite is Saraï. She has been our bestseller for four years: closure construction, natural layers and an everyday finish that fits easily into a daily routine.

Getting the fit right
Measure your head
Size is the foundation of a glueless fit. Measure three things with a soft tape, over your hair exactly as you will wear it under the wig (braids, cornrows or flat hair):
- Circumference: from mid-forehead just past the hairline, behind the ears, around the nape and back to the start.
- Ear to ear: from under one ear, over the top of the head, to under the other ear.
- Front to back: from the hairline to the nape.
| Size | Circumference | Ear to ear | Front to back |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 20.5" | 12" | 12" |
| S | 21" | 12.5" | 13" |
| M | 22" | 13" | 14" |
| L | 23" | 13.5" | 15" |
| XL | 24" | 14" | 16" |
The most common mistake is choosing a smaller size because a snug wig feels more secure. A wig that is too small pulls back and keeps receding from your hairline. A wig that is too large moves, and that movement creates friction on your natural hair. Choose the size that matches your measurements.

When your wig slides
If a glueless wig slides, check the adjustable band first: where it sits and how tight it is. Then check the size. A band in the wrong spot can make a correct wig feel unstable, but if the size is wrong, adjusting the band alone will not fully fix it. A velvet grip like The Gripper adds comfort; it does not replace the right size.

Choosing your lace
The lace is the part of the wig that creates your hairline and parting. Every OPHAIR unit uses transparent HD lace, and every collection comes in both closure and frontal. The simplest way to choose:
- Everyday: a closure (5x5, 6x6).
- Everyday with more styling freedom: a larger closure (7x5, 7x6 or 9x6, depending on the unit), still closure-based.
- Maximum impact: a frontal (13x4, 13x6) for events and statement looks.

Choosing your hair
Human hair or synthetic
Human hair looks more natural, can be heat styled and lasts longer with care. But premium human hair is not always necessary. If you wear a wig once or twice a year, an Essence unit can be more than enough. If you wear your wigs almost every day and want to keep them for years, a higher tier makes more sense.

Raw or virgin hair
Both are human hair. The difference is how much processing the strand has been through. Raw hair goes through the least processing, which keeps the strand stronger through repeated washing and styling. Our Raw hair is Vietnamese or Indonesian.

Density
Natural density sits closer to real hair and suits everyday wear. Full density gives more volume for glam, events and photos. The density of each OPHAIR unit is listed in its product description.

Looking natural
A wig can be made from beautiful hair and still look like a wig if it is not finished properly. The hairline, the knots, the lace tint, the density, the cut, the parting and the styling all work together. That is why our units arrive ready to wear: freshly styled before they ship, so you are not expected to finish the work at home.

Wearing it every day
Glueless wigs are made for daily wear, because you can put them on and take them off easily. Take yours off at night whenever you can. If you wear wigs regularly, we recommend at least two in rotation. A wig is like a pair of shoes: worn every single day, it wears down faster. Rotation lets each unit rest and gives you a backup when one needs a wash.

Care and lifespan
With proper care, a quality wig can last for years. Our founder still wears OPHAIR wigs that are about six years old. Lifespan depends on the quality of the hair, how often you wear it, heat, washing, storage, rotation and maintenance. There is no magic washing schedule either: wash your wig when it starts to feel oily, heavy, dry or coated with product.
Prefer to leave it to us? Book a Spa Day at the Showroom, or send your wig by mail: we wash it, restyle it and send it back.

Price and value
A quality wig costs more than the hair it is made from. You are paying for the lace, the construction, the colour, the cut, the styling, quality control and the expertise to make something technically complex simple to wear every day. We make the complicated easy to wear.

Buying online with confidence
Before you order a wig online, check three things: your correct size, the brand's reputation and real client photos, and whether the brand's styling matches the way you want to look. At OPHAIR, our photos are never retouched or reused: the unit you see is the unit that ships, styled and boxed with minis chosen by our team.

Frequently asked questions
Do glueless wigs really stay on without glue?
Yes, when the wig is the right size and the adjustable band is placed and tensioned correctly. The construction does the work that glue would otherwise do.
Are glueless wigs good for beginners?
They are the easiest place to start. There is no adhesive to apply or remove, and you can put the wig on and take it off the same day.
Can I wear a glueless wig every day?
Yes. For daily wear, take it off at night when you can and keep at least two wigs in rotation so each one gets time to rest.
What size glueless wig do I need?
Measure your circumference, ear to ear and front to back, then match them to the size chart above. If you are between two sizes, book a Fitting or a video consultation.
Do you ship glueless wigs across Canada and the United States?
Yes. We ship from our Atelier in Montréal, and every unit leaves styled and ready to wear.
